When patients visit Canatella Dental, they expect a certain level of commitment to advanced dental care. This is emphasized not just from the doctors and team members at the practice, but the technology we utilize as well. In this month’s newsletter, we’ll be focusing on technology that works to restore your teeth quickly, conveniently and more effectively than traditional methods: CEREC dental crowns.
Some of you may have already received CEREC crowns while others are still in need of one. Whether you need a crown after a root canal or due to extensive decay, Dr. Canatella has you covered!
WHY YOU MAY NEED A DENTAL CROWN
Dental crowns are meant to protect teeth and restore the structure that was damaged by a tooth breaking down with fractures or decay. The crown not only restores the shape of the tooth but provides strength to the existing foundation. By placing a crown we can sometimes prevent the need for future treatment such as root canal therapy or extraction.
Crowns are an essential part of maintaining your bite. If a tooth is damaged, it will make your bite uneven, causing nearby teeth to shift. This shifting can lead to tooth loss or chronic teeth grinding due to bite misalignment.
Luckily, CEREC helps your dentist address your current issue before future ones can occur.

HOW CEREC WORKS TO PRODUCE YOUR CROWN
CEREC uses a milling station to fabricate high-quality ceramic crowns customized just for you right here in our office. After removing damaged or decayed tooth structure, Dr. Canatella will begin capturing images of the prepared tooth and surrounding area. CEREC utilizes a small, handheld, color camera to capture precise 3D images, creating a full picture of your natural teeth. This image is viewable from all angles, therefore allowing the dentist to create a custom ceramic crown.
Once captured, the images appear on a computer where the doctor then designs your crown right there in the operatory with you! Next, a ceramic block is placed inside CEREC’s milling chamber, which uses robotic arms to shape and create your crown. Once your crown is complete, he will then bond it in place, restoring your natural bite.
NO IMPRESSION MATERIAL, NO TEMPORARIES, ONE APPOINTMENT
Thanks to CEREC, the days of using goopy impression material are long gone! This means no temporary crowns or follow up visits to get your final restoration weeks later.
When it comes to receiving dental crowns, CEREC makes it easier for patients to save time at the dental office and spend more time smiling throughout their day with confidence. We couldn’t provide the comprehensive dentistry you’ve come to expect at Canatella Dental without having the right tools for the job.
